The first thing you need to understand is that Koi ponds are not just some holes in the ground where you can store and keep your pets. In order to make them work well and sustain your fish, consider the things that you need to do as you start to plan for its construction. Follow the simple rules that will make sure you’re not going to end up with a costly hole filled with nothing but dead fish!
The first thing that you need to consider is to have a professional build your pond (that's unless you have the necessary knowledge in fish keeping, outdoor landscaping and also construction). You may think that building the pond yourself will save you a lot of cash, but this kind of mentality wouldn't take you further from the case!
If your pond is not built properly right from the start, what'll happen is that you're going to end up spending a great deal of cash on fixing problems that may occur in the future. With an improper set-up of your pond, you won't be able to save your fish from disease!

Once the pond is completely built, most of the are going to be permanently put in place, that's why you can't decide within 2 or 3 weeks that you want to have the construction of your pond in the backyard rather than the frontyard. Take time to plan carefully each and every aspect of the pond, considering the size requirements and placement. Once the pond is built, you can do only a little to alter it, and this is something that you need to remember always. Make sure that you have the necessary time to do it, as this can demand a lot of work from you.
